Coaching or Mentoring?

Coaching is a form of development in which a person supports a learner or client in achieving a specific personal or professional goal by providing training, advice and guidance.

Occasionally, coaching may mean an informal relationship between two people, of whom one has more experience and expertise than the other and offers advice and guidance as the latter learns.

Coaching differs from mentoring in focusing on specific tasks or objectives, as opposed to general goals or overall development.

Coaching is always person specific and usually addresses a number of issues outlined on the left here.

Coaching can be carried out face-to-face, through a phone call, via Skype or a combination of all these communication methods.

Coaching can be used in a business situation or for issues that are outside of the workplace i.e. personal relationships, aspects around sports and hobbies.
